Marine anti-corrosion coating system selection with epoxy primer, epoxy midcoat, and polyurethane topcoat layers

Recommended Product System

VERDA marine and coastal systems are organized from primer to topcoat: epoxy zinc-rich or high-build epoxy primers for prepared steel, epoxy MIO or resin coatings for barrier reinforcement, and polyurethane topcoats for weathering, gloss, and color retention.

Epoxy zinc-rich primer for cathodic protection on prepared steel
High-build epoxy primer or MIO midcoat for barrier reinforcement
Epoxy resin maintenance coating for repair and wet-service steel
Polyurethane topcoat for coastal weathering and appearance retention

Common Pain Points

These are the common project risks that distributors, OEM partners, and contractors should confirm before selecting products or requesting a coating recommendation.

Salt & Coastal Weathering

Coastal steel needs a coating system that considers harsh weather, moisture, chloride exposure, gloss retention, and color retention.

Splash & Wet Exposure

Pontoons, ballast tank areas, inside hull areas, water-immersed or buried steel, and splash-prone zones need careful epoxy selection.

Surface Preparation Limits

Maintenance work often includes hand-prepared steel, old coating, rust, welding damage, and surfaces that are difficult to clean perfectly.

Abrasion & Chemical Stress

Conveyors, ports, tank exteriors, processing equipment, and industrial steel may face mechanical wear and chemical stress.

Appearance Retention

Exterior tanks, equipment, bridges, and visible steel assets often require stable color, gloss, cleanability, and non-chalking topcoat behavior.

Documentation Scope

Some products include CCS or NORSOK-related documentation. Match the product and certificate scope to the actual project before specification.

VERDA Pathways

Choose from four quote-ready system routes based on steel condition, exposure level, maintenance needs, and finish requirements.

Project Workflow

Use this workflow to prepare the project information needed for quotation, sample selection, technical review, or OEM/private label follow-up.

01

Confirm the Asset

Define whether the project involves coastal steel, tank exterior, pipeline, bridge, port equipment, ship interior steel, or maintenance repainting.

02

Review Exposure

03

Inspect Surface Condition

Check new steel, galvanized or aluminum surface, hand-prepared steel, old coating, rust, oil, dust, welding damage, and repair areas.

04

Select Primer and Midcoat
